Rediscovering the story of the Georgette

Saturday, 30 April, 2016 @ 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

$2
Georgette ship

In December 1876, over 50 souls were rescued from the sinking S.S. Georgette at Redgate, Margaret River. It has long been held that 16-year-old Grace Bussell and Aboriginal stockman Samuel Isaacs rode their horses into treacherous surf to safe the people from the stranded Georgette. The incident made heroes of them both. In her novel The Capes, Perth author Marcia van Zeller proposes an alternative reading of this tragic shipwreck tale. Take the time to wander though Ellensbrook, a historic homestead of the South West after the talk.
